Health Canada Expands Dog Food Recall

Pet Food Safety Recalls/Outbreak Alert: Health Canada alerts Canadian consumers to recalls of the following pet food brands, manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods (Gaston, SC) and distributed in Canada: Wellness Super5Mix Large Breed Puppy (15-lb and 30-lb bags; sold in canada from January 27, 2012 to March 2, 2012), Kirkland Signature Dry Pet Food and Nature’s Domain Dry Pet Food (various formulas and package sizes; sold at Costco stores in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland from December 2011 to March 2012), Solid Gold Health Food Products for Pets (various sizes; WolfKing and WolfCub products; sold across Canada from January 1, 2012 to May 8, 2012), Premium Edge, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul, Diamond Natural and Taste of the Wild dry pet foods (various weights and product types; sold across Canada from December 2011 to April 2012), and Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet Foods (various weights and product types; sold across Canada from January 2012 to May 2012). The products were recalled by the manufacturer due to potential contamination with SalmonellaTwo cases of human salmonellosis in Canada and 15 cases in the USA have been traced back to the contaminated pet food.

  1. Some veterinarians and pet owners have long advocated raw meat diet for pets, but exposure to harmful bacteria remains a major concern. Nowadays, the news headlines are filled with stories about contaminated imported pet food. It’s best to make sure the food you are buying is made in the U.S.
