Quebec, August 9, 2013 – MAPAQ, in collaboration with Saucisson Vaudois located at 368 Main Street, St. Brigid d’Iberville is warning the public not to consume the Products listed below manufactured by this company, because they may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

This notice applies to all units of the products sold locally in formats that vary depending on the weight at the facility mentioned above only. All products are labeled with the words “SAUCISSON VAUDOIS, 368 RUE PRINCIPALE, STE-BRIGIDE.”

The company is voluntarily recalling the products and has agreed with MAPAQ to disseminate this warning as a precaution. It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of this food have been reported to date to MAPAQ.

People who have any of these products in their possession should not consume it. They must either return to the institution where they bought it or throw it away. Even if the product does not present any signs of tampering or strange odor, microbiological analyzes revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. This bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness that can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women and their unborn children, the elderly, children and people with weakened immune systems are considered the most vulnerable.

Poossible presence of rubber particles in a bakery product

Quebec, August 2, 2013 – MAPAQ, in collaboration with the company operating under the name Boulangerie St-Donat and located at 9, chemin des Ancestors in Saint-Donat (Lanaudière) is warning the public not to consume the pie “Sugar in the old / Old-Fashioned Sugar ” this company because the food may contain particles of black rubber and pose a risk to health.

The product in question is sold unrefrigerated in a size of 600 grams, in some schools in the Saguenay and Centre-du-Québec and carries on its label marked “Boulangerie St-Donat / Bakery – Pie / Pie – Sugar to the old / Old-Fashioned Sugar. ” This notice warning applies to all units with the batch number 19813G. This number is close to the rear flap of the cardboard packaging and is printed inkjet.

The company is voluntarily recalling the product. She agreed with MAPAQ disseminate this warning as a precaution. It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of this food has been reported to date MAPAQ.

People who have this product in their possession should not consume it. They must return to the institution where they bought it for refund or discard.

June 10, 2013 Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the licence to operate of Establishment 0233, IMO Foods Limited, effective June 7, 2013. IMO Foods Limited is a federally registered fish cannery located in Yarmouth, NS.

There is no food recall associated with this suspension.

The CFIA has determined that adequate controls for food safety are not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis. The company has failed to correct deficiencies related to pest control.

IMO Foods Limited will not be able to resume operations until they have fully implemented the necessary corrective actions and the CFIA is fully confident in the plant’s capacity to effectively manage food safety risks.

The safety of consumers is the CFIA‘s top priority and the Agency is working diligently to ensure there is no potential risk to consumers.

CFIA Suspends License of Gabrielli Distribution Inc.

June 20, 2013, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) suspended the produce license (#7379) of Gabrielli Distribution Inc., effective June 19, 2013. Gabrielli Distribution Inc. is a fresh fruit and vegetable importer and distributor located in Montreal, QC.

This suspension is a result of non-compliance with the Licensing and Arbitration Regulations. In particular, Gabrielli Distribution Inc.has consistently failed to settle outstanding debts and has conducted business in a manner inconsistent with fair and orderly business practices.

The licence has been suspended for 90 days; if the financial responsibilities are not addressed within the suspension period, the produce licence will be cancelled. Should financial settlement be reached, Gabrielli Distribution Inc. may re-apply for issuance of a license and some additional conditions would apply.

The license suspension is not a result of any food safety concerns.

The purpose of licensing under the Licensing and Arbitration Regulations is to ensure that fresh fruit and vegetable dealers (i.e.those that import and trade across provincial boundaries) are financially sound and have acceptable business practices. Fair trading practices within the fresh fruit and vegetable industry are particularly important due to the perishable nature of the product and a rapid trading environment.

The CFIA safeguards food, animals and plants which enhances the health and well-being of Canada’s people, environment and economy, and access to international markets. Licenses and registrations of registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations.
