CFIA Revokes Registration of Establishment 2425, St- Thomas Fish Market Inc.

June 27, 2013, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has revoked the registration of Establishment 2425, St-Thomas Fish Market Inc., effective June 24, 2013. Located in St-Thomas-De-Kent, New Brunswick, St-Thomas Fish Market Inc.produces bottled bar clams, clam fricot and lobster.

In March 2013, the CFIA had determined that adequate controls for food safety were not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis. The company had failed to correct deficiencies previously identified through CFIA inspections, which resulted in the suspension of its license to operate on March 18, 2013. The company has not re-opened since the initial suspension.

On numerous occasions since then, the company was unable to provide the CFIA with an acceptable corrective action plan to address deficiencies as part of the suspension. As a result, on June 24, 2013, the CFIA revoked the registration of St-Thomas Fish Market Inc. The revocation of the registration was the next step in the compliance process.

The establishment, at any time, can request reinstatement of their registration and would need to comply with the Fish Inspection Regulations by:

  • Developing a Quality Management Plan (QMP). The QMP Plan must include a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plan.
  • Registering the processing facility with the CFIA by properly completing an application form and paying a specified fee. A Certificate of Registration can only take place once a QMP Plan has been completed and accepted by CFIA.
  • Ensuring the facility(s) is in compliance with Schedule I of the Fish Inspection Regulations. Facility compliance will be verified by CFIA prior to issuance of the Certificate of Registration.

Between March and April 2013, there were several recalls associated with this company. No additional product has been recalled but should any potentially contaminated product be identified, the CFIA will take immediate action.
