The Canadian badminton team got a scare one week before the start of the Olympics in London after two of the four members of the group were exposed to a stomach virus during a training camp in Derby, England.

Canadian doubles pair Michelle Li, back, spikes the birdie as Alex Bruce, front, looks on as they battle against the United States during the 2011 Pan American Games.

Women’s doubles partners Michelle Li and Alex Bruce fell ill on July 19th and have been resting since.

Li is Canada’s top-ranked singles player, sitting in the 22nd spot of the Badminton World Federation rankings and No. 27 in doubles with teammate Bruce.

Both athletes were treated by a local doctor and the Canadian Olympic Medical Team and are expected to return to training next week.

All precautions have been taken to prevent any further spread of the virus.

A friendly match against Great Britain scheduled for today was cancelled and the team will be in Derby to get ready for the Games.

The athletes are expected to return to London on July 24th
